As the story progresses first impressions are hard to overcome, getting past dangerous events is difficult and rash decisions could detail everything. Athena Braveheart gives the reader romance, danger, drama and character growth in this one.I received a free copy of the book from the author via Booksprout. I had the opportunity to review or not.
The moment that Luke laid eyes on Max he was hooked. She was his coworker and his best friend’s little sister. That was a recipe for disaster.Forgiveness is the theme that resonated with me. These engaging characters had all been through a loss of some sort, and that had made them stronger as individuals. As the patriarch, Max’s Dad was the glue that kept this family together, Luke included. Losing his mother had shaped him into the man that he was now and even though his record with women may not have made him admirable, his story touched my heart.Loved the concept and HEA. The emotions, conflicts and triumphs had me in awe, I couldn’t put it down.**ARC kindly provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! **
What I loved about this book was how real it felt. The characters felt like people you could actually meet. It’s rare to find a story this steamy that resonates as so true to life.I feel like I really do know Max, Luke and David now. This isn’t your typical generic romance. There’s real heart in here that made me worry about if these characters were going to be okay. What a lovely surprise! I’ll definitely watch this author!Highly recommend!
Max is starting her first job as an attorney, at a firm her brother is a partner. She meets a guy in the elevator how kind of hits on her. They start off totally excommunicating with each other. Luke is her brother's best friend and works at the firm too. Max's brother, David, let's Luke know that if there is going to be a problem with Luke and Max getting along, Luke will be leaving. Luke tries to honesty try to apologize, but it gets mixed up again. Then he just flat out kisses her. Sparks fly.He gets ill and lands in the hospital, with here watching out over him. Then after a while, she ends in the hospital too. They do work things out, David punches Luke in the face when they tell him they are together.Here is where it is total different than other stories. You do get more background information, pretty deep, about Luke and Max. When they get married in Miami, it goes into fantastic detail about where they are at. When they go on their honeymoon, it goes into great detail about that too. It is almost like a travel guide to these fantastic places.The story doesn't end once they get married. It goes on, which is fantastic. How many times have you read a great story and it ends and you want to know more, like what happens next. This does it. It isn't the same cookie cutter story that has boy meets girl, they have some communication problems, they work it out, they fall in love and that's it. Sparks fly between Max and Luke when she starts working for her brother's firm. When things start looking bad her brother lets Luke know if they can't get along its his job. So when things heat up between him and Max he ends up kissing her. Max's brother isn't happy learning that they are together but it doesn't stop them. They end up married facing the obstacles together. However the story continues and more history between uke and her brother comes out. Will it cause them more problems? Can they overcome everything thrown at them?This is a great story once I started I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. Luke resents him at times because he made partner but Luke didn’t. Max had just graduated from law school. She is young and sheltered. She has never even dated, choosing to focus on her career. Sparks fly with their first meeting in the elevator of the firm. But it doesn’t take long for those sparks to become different. Luke and Max have to overcome the wrath of her brother and his friend to be together. Then there is an episode at the firm and Max’s family house related to an old case Luke and her brother worked years ago. It was okay but I wished that the main characters were more developed in their self assessments so the inconsistencies later on in the book could have made sense. At a certain point the jealousy that Luke had for Max’s brother, the same one he called a best friend, felt uncomfortable, yet he never harps on what he resented about Luke anymore. That just don’t disappear over night. Luke and Max began so not liking each other while at the same time admiring the physical aspects and fantasizing about each other. I felt that they needed more one on one time together before the almost insta love happened.
