It had been several, several years since I had read this book. Well, "reading" is sort of exaggerating as that is a small part of it. I found myself once more delving into the very elaborate pictures, admiring each and every detail in the scenarios. The way the book was designed and the very visual nature would make it perfect for young and inquisitive minds. It had that effect on me when I was a young reader, and prompted me to draw conclusions and make connections. The book, as well as the others in the series, are fun...even for older readers who need to kill some time.
I bought this book at a used book sale for my 8 year old to work on to build her critical thinking and deduction skills in a fun sort of way. We both love mysteries and Sherlock Holmes, etc, and so I thought this would be perfect. I was not disappointed! It gave enough information for each puzzle to get her thinking about it and keep her challenged. The clues in the back, for when you get stuck, are very helpful as well. The answers are in the very back, but you really need someone else to check them for you so you don't see the answers to the next puzzle. I wish they could have put the answers in a lift-and-look or some similar format, so you don't see ahead unless you want to. Overall, though, I think this book is fabulous (as did my daughter) and we are excited to get more!
...even YEARS after buying it first. The pages are FILLED with so many objects, and as a younger child, I adored looking at every single item on there. It was like "I Spy" but more fun. I still remember the entire thing, despite having not read it in a few year.s Yet, even today I still find myself writing "T.O.O.T.S." on things and double checking the boots in my closet...A great book, on so many levels...anyone and everyone should have it.
