This was the first Bonnie Hunter book I've purchased and I'm sorry to say that based on this book alone, I'm not likely to become a fan.Unfortunately, the book is written to only use Bonnie's Fast2Cut triangle tool for making half and quarter square triangles. There isn't any discussion about using any other method of cutting those shapes. (Yes, I know, I could use my preferred method of making half and quarter square triangles but then what is the point of having this book if I don't care for the quilt designs?)As far as the quilt designs go, I found them lackluster. All of the projects are fairly large quilts (around 80 inches).Bonnie uses foundation paper behind all blocks that are larger than 5 inches.Bottom line: If I had the opportunity to buy the book again, would I? No (sorry)
The quality of this book is very poor compared to Bonnie's books of the past. Her patterns and instructions are wonderful but the lousy pictures and type of paper used by the Publishers stink. Pictures of the completed quilts show few close ups and are placed on dark backgrounds.
I have one other Bonnie Hunter book that I do like, but this one I probably will pass on to another quilter. All the patterns and instructions are too busy for me. It truly is a "Frenzy"! Also, a special ruler is suggested, and quite possibly required, and I don't want to buy the ruler. Bonnies quilt patterns and books have so many pieces nowadays from when I first started following her. Too many. I'm should have known this book would also require a lot of concentration and piecing which I'm just not into doing anymore. But, it's a very nice book if you are liking Bonnies methods and patterns.
Use up all your scraps. Bonnie Hunter is of course amazing. Her patterns and techniques have taught me so much. A novice quilter can do them with the right tools. Her essential triangle tool makes these so much easier. Use strips and strings and bits to make these awesome quilts. I wish I could get all her books...all in good time.
Bonnie Hunter is the queen of scrap quilting. It is not an easy task to create a unified, coherent design out of leftovers from other projects, but she shows you how to do it successfully. I've made 2 string projects, and I think they are lots of fun to make. Also, I paid the same price for that little leftover strip of fabric as I did for rest of the yardage, so I like using it up! Bonnie's instructions and tips are always clear, and well illustrated with photos. This book is another winner from one of my favorite quilt teachers.
I was disappointed with the contents of the book as the projects did not entice me to make any of the projects. A quick look at the contents did not reveal any new tip or technique and I could have spent my money elsewhere.
Another home run quilt book by Bonnie Hunter! Beautiful quilts, great, easy-to-follow directions, as usual. I have ALL of her books and love them! Her patterns and instructions make it easy for you to make stunning quilts.
Another great quilt book from Bonnie Hunter. This book features quilts made from "strings" or scraps of material. The projects range from easier to more intense (more pieces). The colors of the book pages are bright and clear. Each quilt pattern has detailed instructions for both beginner and more experienced quilters.
