Should be required reading for doctors prescribing these things. As someone who has been on them for almost 10 years and tried several times to get off of them unsuccessfully, I wish the doctors who put me on them to begin with would have known what he knew. Im thinking of trying to get off them again but it might be fruitless and dangerous to boot. Anyway the book gave me alot new knowledge relevant to my decision to quit or not and will certainly give you information if your thinking of starting them as well. You think you have a problem and don't realize you are pouring gasoline on the fire. The really scary fact is that ALL the psychotropics are unpredictable in nature and no one really knows why they do the things they do in the brain. Save yourself and read this and share it with all your friends and family. This doctor speaks the truth that few will.
As a clinician, I found this very insightful. While I think many have benefitted from SSRIs, I also think the risks need to be clearly outlined for patients. Dr. Shipko is very honest about these being his own personal observations with his patients. I almost think I need to make a formal written informed consent for patients to sign before starting meds now.

It might seem strange to pay five bucks for such a short document, but the peer-reviewed literature is dense, the methodology for researching SSRI side effects is highly suspect, and framing the issue properly is critical to making an intelligent choice. Required reading for anyone considering taking SSRIs, as well as for any psychiatrist who prescribes them, or therapist who refers to psychiatrists.
This book and others like it should be required reading before you, or any loved one, is considering taking antidepressants. We take the time to do research on the pros and the cons when buying our cars, tv's, etc. But when it comes to our health, most often we don't check out the side effects of medications. I have a loved one who has been prescribed, and is taking, Zyprexa, Pristiq, Ativan, Mirtazapine, Lamotrigine. The combination is not helping her but she is to suffer through it until we have the "right formula". Dr's are continuing learning. Thankfully, we can check out through available resources on the Internet. In the past, this information was not made available to the public. Now the public can check and/or question what the Dr's are prescribing even though we do not have a degree. Hopefully, the Dr's are not intimidating patients and/or concerned loved ones to the point of not being able to ask questions.
Provides a worthwhile view to be considered about potential side effects of SSRIs. There are no absolutes, but it may be wise to challenge some assumptions about SSRI safety and to reassess risk-benefit ratios in various clinical situations.

I now have an understanding of why I felt the way I did after taking an SSRI for 4 years. I do not regret taking it. It helped when I needed it the most. What I needed was validation and understanding with everything else that came with it. This hit me right in the feels before I even got out of the introduction.
