I had no idea National Geographic made adventure maps until recently when I was given a copy of their Northern Yucatán Peninsula Adventure Map. I didn't have it with me on my trip but I wish I had. One side has a map of the Northern Yucatán Peninsula with detailed city insets of Cancún and Mérida; the other side has information -- plus maps -- of the Yucatán's most important archaeological sites. I used this map on a two week driving vacation through the Yucatan. It wasn't a replacement for my GPS but it was extremely helpful in navigating between major points of interest. It was also helpful because it showed the location of ruins, many of which we decided to visit because they were on the map. It may be missing fine detail and is not helpful for navigation in cities but it was met our needs. It is made from very durable paper that withstood the many abuses inflicted upon it, including spilled water and footprints from sandy shoes, during the road trip. I would recommend this map for anyone visiting the area.

Exactly as described! Very handy and full of useful information. LOVE that it's also water resistant with the plastic coating. I don't have to worry about the ink bleeding if I accidentally get it wet on an adventure. Definitely would recommend! This will make my vacation so much easier to plan and navigate!

I wasn't very happy with this map. In several respects, for example south along the Puuc Highway and back north on the Route of the Monasteries, both south of Merida, the map differed significantly from the actual location of intersecting roads. The differences were sufficient to create confusion and difficulty for us; for example, sometimes the map would have us turn left to connect when we needed to turn right. I basically stopped using the map in this region, but used it again without difficulty to travel from Merida to Playa del Carmen -- but near Valladolid, when we used secondary roads for a while to reach the hacienda we were staying at, the map was again inexact.

I may be behind in the times, but this map is sweeeet! I am used to a big thin paper map, that tears just from folding to many times... This one seems much more sturdy. I'm going to Quintana Roo in two months, and I certainly don't want to use my data plan/gps on my cell phone. This map lists UTM and Lat/Long coordinates for a good portion of Mayan temples, etc. I'll bring my normal hiking gps, and punch in coordinates I find on the map. The map is made of a rubbery vinyl type material, and it is very clear and easy to read. It may not have EVERY detail on it, but, we know that is impossible to do anyway. Highly recommended for Cancun/Tulum/East Coast Yucatan area.

Decent map if only it showed the area that I am traveling. Map does not show the area between Playa Del Carmen and the Belize border. Exactly where I will be traveling.

Although it says 'Revised Regularly' at the bottom, the map I got was copyright 2009. It is missing a road from Playa del Carmen to El Tintal that was built a couple years ago.

Nice product. It's not as detailed as I was hoping for. It's not paper. It's more plastic-y so would hold up well.

Not been updated in quite some time...but neither has Yucatan roads. Worth the money, if you are driving...
