Someone -a primary source and key participant - finally rips the mask off of those who have lied to us for years about these events. Herschensohn outlines how the 93rd and 94th congresses worked against the interests of our nation, and constitutional executive power. He also gives tons of details about how the media and many "celebrities" worked against the nation - wishing us , and later our ally in South Vietnam to lose! The examples are chilling. I just wish names were used in many cases. There was no attempt by Ford to "restart" the war that Nixon ended. Congress refused to live up to agreements made between the US and South Vietnam. Criminal. You will find this out- many of you for the first time - in this book. Wait until you find out what members of congress were saying as we allowed millions to be killed by communist takeovers after 1974 as congress sold out our allies. The media was engaged in outright treason. It made me sick to read the examples of what they did.How many of you knew that protestors in the US ripped down our flag and hoisted up the flag of the Viet Cong more than once? The media, politicians and academia still refuse to be honest about these events. This book makes it impossible for them to hide anymore - if we force them to deal with it.I found this book after hearing a lecture from Winston Lord - negotiator for peace talks. He pointed out 40 years of revisionists who claim we could have gotten the same deal in 1969 that we got in 1973. Untrue. His talk is available on the internet.I knew this thesis was correct but ignored due to voluntary amnesia. I will use this book with students from now on. We need more people to speak out.You will especially enjoy the "Christmas Bombing" lie the media continues to sell. There is just so much in this book that will open your eyes and make you angry. You will also appreciate the situation Nixon inherited and how he masterfully dealt with it. I read the book in one day- and read it again recently.I lived through this and have been waiting for someone like Herschensohn to expose our American Amnesia.

I am so glad I purchased this book. I have finally found someone that saw and experienced the same things during the years of the Vietnam war and the ultimate betrayal of the Vietnamese people afterwards by this country. I was starting to believe I was the only one that saw the cover-up of this horrendous act of betrayal.I served in the U.S. Marines in Vietnam from February 1968 to March 1969. I saw Tet '68 come and go and the defeat of the NVA and PLF in South Vietnam. Then I read in disbelief the accounts in the papers from home. The people at home were being told lies and they were believing them. The media was not only betraying our own troops but the Vietnamese people that had believed in our promises to them. That was when the people back home more or less turned their backs to us. There was no great welcome home like there was for our fathers after WWII. There was derision and contempt toward us along with the spitting and calling us "baby killers" though. I've never forgiven my peers that stayed at home for that. I still love my country and I would sacrifice anything for it but I don't think I'll ever be able to forgive them for their behavior. I wish every one of them would read this book and try to recall what it was really like.Whenever our troops are in harm's way defending ours or someone else's freedoms I hear the phrase,"I hope we remember the lessons we learned in Vietnam." If those "lessons learned" are about believing in the lies that replaced the truths, as is shown in this book, then I hope they are forgotten along with the petty, selfish individuals that inaugurated them. However, if the "lessons learned" are about believing in the sacrifice and courage needed to keep freedom and liberty alive in this world, then I say, "By all means, learn them." And remember them. And remember those that bled to keep the light of freedom lit for you.

It didn't take long to read this book, but it got its message across well enough. It's been a while since I read it, but I'm still able to inform anyone interested in hearing the parts about the war you never heard or hear much about even today. My wife just finished her history class from college. Some of the things I told her, she almost found hard to believe because that's not the way they taught it.I was born in the mid-60's. My father fought in Korea and is retired military. He always told me things like "we won every battle, but lost the war", or "we could have easily won it, if we truly wanted to". I couldn't fully understand what he meant and my American History classes never got much past WW II. I knew enough about the war to understand that our hands were tied due to Russian and Chinese reactions, but I doubt I would have ever known the full story without reading this book. Thanks for the information. I'll never forget it.

Through everything from private letters between world leaders to accounts from prisoners of war, Herschensohn looks at the part of the Vietnam War not talked about in history books. It seems that the country has been lost in amnesia since the war ended. President Nixon's bombings in North Vietnam forced them to the negotiating table in Paris where they signed the peace treaty. The Americans basically received everything they wanted, but the leftist media made it look like a defeat. After the Watergate scandal, resulting in a landslide victory for the Democrats, the North Vietnamese increased their strength and attacked again. President Ford begged Congress to send aid, by the refused and South Vietnam was lost. This book uncovers the truth of what happened and why and I strongly suggest anyone interested in the war read it.
